Getting Started

Safety Precautions

Disassembling the product may cause malfunction of the product. Please do not disassemble the product. LG Electronics is not responsible for problems caused by disassembling the product by users or non authorized personnel.
Please read the safety information carefully before using the product. After reading this manual, make sure to keep it in a place where you can easily access while using the product. The notices for safety are written, to prevent unexpected danger or damage while using the product safely and correctly.

Warning : Violation of the instructions may cause minor injury or product damage.

  • Do not use in high temperature(over 35 ˚C (95 °F)), low temperature(below 5 ˚C (41 °F)) or a place where is big temperature difference. It can cause breakdown and failure.
  • Please don’t use the portable battery in a place which often produces static electricity and heat. It can cause breakdown and failure.
  • Please don’t use the portable battery in a place which is really damp and/or dusty. It can cause breakdown and failure.
  • Please don’t disassemble, convert, and/or repair. It can cause breakdown and failure and will void warranty.
  • Please don’t spill water, oil and/or chemicals on product. It can cause breakdown and failure.
  • Please, don’t shock, throw, or drop the product and/or button. If the product is damaged, it can cause failure, malfunction, or injury due to debris.
  • When using the product, please refer to the user manual to prevent failure and malfunction.
  • Please check that device’s voltage is compatible with your product.
  • To prevent failure, malfunction and danger of an explosion, please do not leave your product around a heat source or combustible material.
  • Do not shake or throw the product.
  • When the product has damage, don’t turn on.
  • When not in use, please charge the product once a month.
  • Clean the product with a soft cloth. Do not use chemicals or solvents for cleaning.
  • Do not use the product in an electrostatic discharged environment. This can cause failure or malfunction.
  • Please refer to the information of this manual if this will be used together with a child. Please refer to the manual during use.
  • If internal fluids of the product come into contact with skin, rinse with clean water immediately. This can cause irritation to your skin.
  • Please do not press or bend the charging cable. This can cause failure or malfunction.
    Caution!: violation of the directions can cause serious injury or death.
  • Do not leave the product in/around heating appliances, car interiors, or high temperature environments. May cause overheating and/or explosion.
  • Do not place the product near containers filled with liquids, such as vases, flower pots, cups, cosmetics, or drugs. May cause injury or death due to fire or electric shock.
  • If the product is soaked with a liquid such as water, chemicals, or oil, do not use. It may cause fire or electric shock.
  • If product emits smoke or a strange smell, stop use immediately. It may cause fire or electric shock.
  • Please leave the product out of the reach of children or babies. If ingested, consult your doctor immediately.
  • Do not put the product in the microwave or oven. Rapidly heating the product can cause damage, overheating, fire, explosion and may result in injury or death.
  • Please immediately discontinue use if there is strange odor, heating, discoloration, and other strange phenomenon while using the product. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Please stop charging, if charging takes longer than the max charging time. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Please keep away from (heat of) fire if smoking or leaking. Internal fluids are flammable and may cause injury or death.
  • If internal fluids come into contact with your eyes please immediately consult your doctor and rinse/flush with water. May cause blurred vision or vision loss.
  • Please do not give the product strong impact or drop. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Please do not activate the product after impact. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Do not apply pressure or puncture the portable battery. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Do not expose to high temperature over 60 ˚C. This can cause overheating, fire, or explosion and may result in injury or death.
  • If the portable battery is swollen, please inquire the manufacturer or the seller because there can be danger.
  • Do not leave or use in high temperature and humidity such as a bathroom. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Please do not step on or press cables. If the cable is broken, do not use. May cause electrical shock, or fire and result in injury or death.
  • Do not use near flame or flammable material. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Do not plug metal objects into the body. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Do not allow contact with moisture. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Do not use the product for a long time on a blanket or quilt, electric blanket, or on the carpet. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Do not disassemble construct, compress, puncture, or damage. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.
  • Do not connect the input and output terminals. Please avoid touching metal products to the input and output terminals. The product may overheat, combust, or explode causing injury or death.

Recycling / disposal : Product must be disposed of properly. Do not throw it in the trash or incinerator.
You are cautioned that changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate this equipment.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
-Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
-Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
-Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
-Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

You can check remaining battery capacity when you press the LED button. Lighting the LEDs represent current battery capacity.

Caution: 

  • Please charge the portable battery at least once a month, because it consumes a small amount of current even when not in use.
  • If all LEDs are not lighting (BP4 10400 mAh / BP4 5200 mAh) or the red LED is lighting (BP3 2600 mAh), please charge the portable battery immediately. If portable battery is discharged, its lifetime is shorten.

Operation

Charging the portable battery

Caution: Charge the portable battery completely before using it for the first time. Before connecting the USB cable, check the voltage/current of the adapter. If you use unsuitable device, it may cause malfunction of portable battery or charger. LG BP4 Portable Battery img 3

  1.  Connect the Micro USB port (Input) of the portable battery and the charger adapter or PC USB port by using the USB cable.
    -The LED is blinking, it is charging normally.
  2. When charging of the portable battery is done, the LED indicator will be turned off. Then, remove the USB cable.

Note: 

  • LED lights display charging conditions and capacity indications.
  • When you press LED button while in charging battery, the portable battery mode change to discharging mode for portable device and stop the charging during 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, the portable battery will be charged normally.

Sequential Charging

  1. Connect the Micro USB port (Input) of the portable battery and the charger adapter by using the USB cable.
  2. Connect the USB port (Output) of the portable battery and the USB port of your portable device by using the USB cable.
    -After finishing the portable battery charged, then your portable device will be charged.
    -When you press LED button, after finishing your portable device charged, then the portable battery will be charged.
    *Depending on Portable device, charging process might not stop even though battery is fully charged (100% charged). In this case, it will be not switched to charging the portable battery. In order to change the sequence for charging the portable battery, please wait for some time(it may different depending on device’s manufacturer.) or disconnect the portable device from portable battery.
  3. When charging of portable device is done, remove the USB cable.

Note

  • This function will be operated when portable device connect to PORT 1 in BP4 10400 mAh.
  • When sequential charging function is operated, charging current will be limited. Thus, it may take longer to charge.
  • This function is recommended to use genuine charger. If you charge by using USB port in PC, it may not be charged.
  • If disconnecting the charger while charging portable device(product to be charged) by using sequential charging, the portable device will be charged.
  • If disconnecting a portable device while charging portable device (product to be charged) by using sequential charging, the portable battery will be charged about 20 seconds later.
  • If doing sequential charging within 20 seconds since the LED button has been pressed, the portable battery will be charged after the portable device is charged completely.
  • If connecting the charger to the portable battery while charging a portable device, the portable battery will be charged after the portable device is charged completely.
  • When you charge the portable device that the charging specification is over 1A by using sequential charging, it might not be displayed charging indication on your portable device.

Charging portable devices

Caution

Check the voltage/current specification with your portable device before charging the portable device. Check manual or charger specification that you purchased portable device or check manufacturer of portable device before you charge the portable device. LG BP4 Portable Battery img 5

  1. Connect the USB port (Output) of the portable battery and the USB port of your portable device by using the USB cable.
  2. Press the LED button.
    -LEDs flashing represents current battery capacity.
  3. When charging of portable device is done, remove the USB cable.

Note

  • You can use the supplied USB cable with your portable device to charge.
  • If not connecting a portable device to the portable battery after pressing the LED button, the portable battery output is to be turned off about 20 seconds later. Charging mode for portable device will maintain during 20 seconds.
  • In case of using BP4 10400 mAh, when you charge battery charging specification 1.0 A(or higher) portable device by using one of USB port, the other USB port may be limited to charge devices. Therefore, when you charge portable device, please check charging specification of portable device.

Troubleshooting

Please check the following contents if portable battery does not work. If the problem is not solved, please stop use and contact manufacturer.

Problem

Cause & Correction

Portable battery cannot charge the portable device. • Please check the Voltage specification between Portable battery and the portable device.

• Please check that the cable is properly connected.

• Please start charging the portable device by pressing the LED indicator button.

Portable Battery has stopped charging the portable device. • Portable Battery is almost empty. Please charge the portable battery.
When the portable battery is connected with the portable device, a “Slow charging” message appears on the portable device. • This may occur on some devices, the charge status is normal. Please continue charging.
There is no LED flashing after connecting the portable battery to the portable device. • The charging status will start with LED flashing after pressing the LED indicator button.

• LED doesn’t flash while the portable battery charges the portable device.

Problem

Cause & Correction

LED is not blinking, while portable battery is charging using a laptop or desktop. • Please check that the PC is in power off or sleep mode.

• The USB port may lack power. Please disconnect all other devices using USB ports.

The charging time is too long. • The charging time may vary due to environmental temperature.

(Please charge in 5 °C to 35 °C (41 °F to 95 °F))

• The charging time may vary when the portable battery is connected to PC USB ports. (USB specification: 5 V 500 mA)

• The USB port may lack power. Please disconnect all other devices using USB ports.

• May occur when using a USB Hub. Please connect portable battery to PC USB port directly.

The portable battery is overheating. • The portable battery may emit heat while charging or during use, if there is too much heat or smoke, please stop use.
There is no LED lighting when the LED indicator button is pressed.

The portable battery is not charging the portable device.

• The portable battery is almost empty. Please charge it.

• It can appear when safety-circuit was operated by a short-circuit. For normal operation, disconnect the portable battery with the cable first and then charge the portable battery again.

Problem

Cause & Correction

The portable device couldn’t be charged as the portable battery’s capacity. • Depending on the voltage of the portable battery and the portable device, the charging efficiency is various. For example, if portable device’s battery has 2000 mAh capacity, it isn’t possible to charge the portable device over five times by using 10400 mAh of portable battery. The actual available capacity is below 10400 mAh. (about 70 % – 80 % is available)
A LED keeps blinking fast. (BP3 2600 mAh: purple LED Keeps blinking fast, BP4 10400 mAh, BP4

5200 mAh: All LEDs keep blinking fast.)

• In case of abnormal circumstance

– Using the unit at too much low degree(below 5 °C (41 °F)) or too much high degree(above

35 °C (95 °F)).

– An operation of a short circuit by external environment.

– Input or output to an overcurrent or overvoltage.

• That means it is an abnormal circumstance or a short circuit of the unit occurs. Stop using the unit immediately. If you make the normal circumstance, it will work properly again.

• If the unit does not work properly even under the normal circumstance for long, press the LED button once.

• If the LED Lights keep blinking fast under the normal circumstance, contact the service center.

• It will work properly that you should disconnect the charger from the portable battery first and then re-connect them.

Problem

Cause & Correction

Portable battery repeats charging and stopping. • In case of charging portable device that charging specification is over 1A by using BP3 2600 mAh or BP4 5200 mAh, it might repeat charging and stopping.

This is an operation to find stable current, so that you can charge it without any worry. (To check charging specification of portable devices, refer to its manual and charger specification, or contact device’s manufacturer.)

 

Accessories

Disposal of Waste Batteries/ Accumulators

  1. This symbol may be combined with chemical symbols for mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd) or lead (Pb) if the battery contains more than 0.0005% of mercury, 0.002% of cadmium or 0.004% of lead.
  2. All batteries/accumulators should be disposed separately from the municipal waste stream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government or the local authorities.
  3. The correct disposal of your old batteries/accumulators will help to prevent potential negative consequences for the environment, animal and human health.
  4. For more detailed information about disposal of your old batteries/ accumulators, please contact your city office, waste disposal service or the shop where you purchased the product.

Removal of Waste Batteries and Accumulators

In case this product contains a battery incorporated within the product which cannot be readily removed by end-users, LG recommends that only qualified professionals remove the battery, either for replacement or for recycling at the end of this product’s working life. To prevent damage to the product, and for their own safety, users should not attempt to remove the battery and should contact LG Service Helpline, or other independent service providers for advice. Removal of the battery will involve dismantling of the product case, disconnection of the electrical cables/contacts, and careful extraction of
